Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, We are pleased to share the 6th edition of the JMA UK Newsletter. This special edition is led by our younger generation and is dedicated to remembering 30 October 1990, Black October. On that day, the Muslims of Jaffna were ordered to leave their homes within two hours, carrying almost nothing with them. Thirty-six years on, many of our families still carry the memories of that day. Preserving these memories and passing them on to the next generation is essential to protecting our history, heritage and identity. This edition opens with a message from our Secretary, B.M. Farzan, followed by an account of what happened on 30 October 1990. It includes a poem for the day by F M Rozaan, an essay in Tamil by Yarl Azeem, “Two hours and 50p”, a family’s story by Zaina Mohamed Fazil, and “Why remember?”, five reasons by Raheem Rajhi. You will also find a review of our Annual Family Gathering 2026, along with project updates on the Mankumban Masjid reconstruction appeal and a laptop for a future doctor from Jaffna. Our in-person committee meetings in East Ham and Luton are covered too. The Youth Corner celebrates Talha Mohamed Sajeeth’s journey to study Medicine at Oxford, and the edition closes with words from past president Mohideen Shah-Jehan. There is also a hidden-letter hunt running through the newsletter. Read every page to uncover the message. We sincerely thank our youth editorial team, contributors and everyone who made this edition possible. Jazakumullahu Khairan. JMA UK Team
